Final Mixes and Quick Update
Hello Everyone!
Thank you thank you thank you for your emails and tweets and Facebook messages wondering how we’re doing with the final touches on the CD!
Truth is, we’re going slow. That’s all.
My intention for this CD was that it had to be fun. Too many times in the past, I’ve pressured myself big time during the making of a CD. So, this time, I started with FUN as one of the intentions for this CD – which means, sometimes we go slow! (And it means that I delayed my last visit to NYC til mid December!)
Also, the mixing process at this point is kinda tedious!
I’ve met lots of you at live events and retreats and such – and we’ve talked about this process at Be My Record Label. What I’ve said is that if a musician asked whether or not to do this kind of website – my advice would be this:
Hire someone or get a fan to do all of the reporting and blogging! Don’t try to do it yourself!
It really does get too challenging to do blog updates AND stay engaged with the creative process of making a CD! It requires two different mindsets – which is not easy when you are literally drowning in your own songs and the instruments on them.
Making a CD is a deep thing. That’s the best way to describe it. Writing a blog post about the day’s work (especially when you got nowhere) is like coming up for air after swimming underwater all day.
So, this is just a note to let you know we’re still working on it. Ben and I did a long phone call yesterday and went through my notes on the mixes. He’s back in the studio this week.
It’ll still be a while before the CD is released. Photos, graphics, marketing ideas, etc – those will take some time too! If you are impatient, and/or angry, please email us from christinekane.com and we will TOTALLY be happy to refund your purchase. No questions asked!
Otherwise - I’ll come up for air to ask you a few things in the coming week or so! (I think I’ve chosen a title for this CD - but maybe someone will have a better idea!)

Hi Christine,
I was one of the posts inquiring about the CD. Please know it was not from a place of impatience, only curiousity. I didn’t expect that it would be done for a while.I was really just wondering how things were going. I have enjoyed hearing about the process. Obviously, reporting on your progress has not been quite as enjoyable for you
I think it’s great that you are committed to taking care of yourself and having fun with this. That’s kind of the whole message of your blog and music, etc. I wouldn’t expect anything different. I am sure it will be reflected in the final product.

Hi Tracy!
I didn’t think you (or anyone) was being impatient! I mostly just was VERY aware that I hadn’t given an update in a while and that I had no idea that this CD would take this long to do! So, no worries for you.
Thanks for the note!

Thank you for the update, Christine. This is the second time today (I think) I’ve seen the word “deep” — I’ll try to remember the first. It could be a clue. Take care, Pati

Nice to have a check in post-it makes total sense that along the way you would discover if this whole concept was a viable, FUN, and easy thing to really do. It has been a wonderful window for me on the making music-cd producing side of life. Your approach has been delightful. Whenever we get our cd it will be worth the wait-all good things in their time. I appreciate your honesty and wish you only FUN for this project!

Refund — are you kidding?? It will be worth the wait, however long it takes! Take your time, do it right, enjoy the process. We’ll be right here waiting.

Christine,
The more you enjoy the process and don’t feel rushed, the better the CD will be, so have fun and take your time.

How cool is it to hear where you are in thought about this project? I have been asking myself this same question: how to engage in the creative process and blog about it…maybe something can shift…your thought on what you blog. like what’s telling you we need a weekly update? who’s saying a day you feel you got nothing done isn’t the very message that folks would value hearing…who measures nothing? i mean you know? I’m asking ?s you already have answers for but i’m not tapping my fingers saying ‘c’mon now, where’s the quantifiable qualitative blogpost proving to me she’s making good on our investment?” ya know? ewww to that type of thinking.
i’m challenging myself outloud w/ this inquiry more than i’m really asking you to directly respond. but i am seeing there’s deep value to blogging the creative process. mind u i have no map. but there are days when i just post…i’m breathing..how u? ya know? whether as a tweet or a facebook status …anyhoo…it’s worth it to consider what is telling you that each post has to be a summary of quantifiables….if i’m even sayin that right. thanks for what ya did share…(those of us followin you in other walks kinda get that you’ve been coaching, training, revving up a whole new format for your women’s retreats, doing a book project, finishing up a mag interview, etc etc..ya know..all that unproductive ‘other’ stuff). kidding. hugs for all u do. -
I totally agree with Thom. ENJOY the process: it will show in the final result. I know how tedious it can be to do the same thing over and over again to get it just right. I used to sing in band and sometimes rehearsals were so much fun and sometimes it would be one long drag. After a while you would not hear the difference anymore between good or bad, or you wouldn’t care (which is worse). So, please do not get to that stage. Remain happy and fun. We will wait. No refund needed. We are your record label, but we are also your fans, that’s the difference
We’re not in it for the money
