5 Things You Should Know About BeMyRecordLabel.com
1. BeMyRecordLabel.com was created by Christine Kane.
As I make my 7th (and possibly last) CD, I want you to Be My Record Label.
Not only will you join in on the process of making an independent record, but you’ll help me make some of the creative decisions as well. (I don’t even have a title for this CD yet!)
2. BeMyRecordLabel.com is not a revolt against the major labels.
It’s just a different model. That’s all.
I’ve never been on a major label. I can’t say, “Rally round! Let’s fight the big corporations!” Truth be told, I don’t want to say that. I made the decision to go my own way early in my career. It was a perfect choice.
3. BeMyRecordLabel.com is an experiment.
The indie way to make records is this:
Borrow lots of money. Make the record. And spend the next two years on the road paying the money back while trying to make a living.
It’s a lousy model. It sets you up for the hamster-on-a-wheel lifestyle. So, rather than a revolt against something, this site is for a better model. It’s an experiment. I want to create money in advance by pre-selling the CD in several package deals.
If this model works, I’ll tweak it and open this site up to other artists and musicians and help them do the same.
4. BeMyRecordLabel.com is a blog.
I’ll be posting updates and questions and photos (and maybe even some samples of first recordings) - so please subscribe to the blog to get updates. (Clicking on the SUBSCRIBE link in the right sidebar.)
5. BeMyRecordLabel.com is creating my recording budget.
There’s a button in the sidebar of the blog that says “Order Now.” Click on it. There are lots of cool options for all levels of enthusiasm for what I’m doing here.
No matter what option you choose, I’ll be grateful simply to not have to show up at the door of Wachovia bank trying to convince them to Be My Record Label!
Thanks in advance!
